ASTA petitions Amex to restore advisor booking of Privileges benefits
ASTA has petitioned American Express to let advisors again book the components that qualify Centurion and Platinum cardholders for Privileges benefits. Under the RezSaver cutoff, those clients must book qualifying hotel, cruise and other components through Amex Travel to keep their benefits.
The commercial effect is direct. The highest-spending clients' bookings, and the commissions on them, move away from advisors. Advisors with Centurion or Platinum clients should tell them how the change affects their benefits and consider signing the petition.
ANI Shoal Bay brings exclusive-use luxury back to Anguilla
ANI Shoal Bay is due to open in Anguilla in January 2027 as an exclusive-use estate with 15 suites for up to 30 guests. It is sold to one group at a time, from $35,000++ per night with a minimum stay.
Rates cover full board, premium drinks, daily treatments and childcare. That makes it a new buyout option for multigenerational and celebration groups in the Caribbean's peak season. Advisors with large-group clients should ask about minimum-stay terms early.
Amsterdam, Italy and Kyoto raise visitor and accommodation taxes
Amsterdam's coalition wants its accommodation tax raised from 12.5% to 16% next year, then toward 20%. Italy expects more than €1.2B from visitor taxes this year. Kyoto is also raising its charges.
For advisors, the practical step is to build these rising per-night costs into quotes for Europe and Japan. Tell clients about them before final payment so they don't meet them as a surprise at check-out.
Boomers lead travel spend as advisors face AI-armed clients
MMGY data shows US travelers expect to spend $5,655 over the next 12 months and take 3.9 trips. Boomers plan to spend $8,796, four times Gen Z. Of those surveyed, 51% have adopted AI for planning. Advisors can use the gap to prioritise boomer and multigenerational clients and to pitch off-peak trips.
Goway's advisor survey adds that 89% of advisors see clients arrive with AI-generated research. One in 10 has seen AI suggest hotels, attractions or routes that do not exist. Advisors also report AI pairing luxury trips with budgets that cannot cover them. Trust beats price by nearly 9 to 1, which is a concrete argument for advisor value on high-ticket trips. Goway also has a $500 bonus on two 2027 river sailings booked by Oct 31.
AI agents still struggle to book hotels
Spot tests found AI agents failing to retrieve rates from Hilton, Marriott and Hyatt sites. Hilton says it isn't blocking Meta's Muse agent, though agents can't always get in. Hyatt says hotels see AI costs but little bottom-line gain.
Advisors should expect agentic booking to stay unreliable in the near term, which supports human-curated booking. Rate access for independents is still undecided.
Air disruption risk: new FAA liability rules and Bangkok turmoil
Starting Oct 19, airlines will not be legally responsible for 10 types of delay-causing events, according to a travel headlines roundup. Passengers may lose hotel and meal vouchers in those cases. The report is secondhand, so verify it against primary sources. Advisors should review insurance coverage and routing buffers on tight itineraries ahead of the holiday season.
Separately, Thai Airways' CEO says he was pushed out over Bangkok flood chaos. Flood-related staff shortages at Suvarnabhumi disrupted flights and baggage handling for days, and leadership turmoil makes recovery uncertain. Check connections and baggage plans for clients routed through Bangkok.
Silversands Beach House in Grenada goes adults-only
The 28-suite Silversands Beach House at Portici Beach now accepts only guests 16 and older, effective immediately. Families are redirected to sister property Silversands Grand Anse.
Advisors holding family or multigenerational bookings at Beach House should check them now and move them where needed.
