Ownership, representation and access shift under safari advisors' feet

Nawiri heads toward sole Swiss ownership while Kapama ends 23 years with An African Anthology, and &Beyond closes Xaranna for a rebuild. Meanwhile Mauritius unrest, Orpen Gate logistics and visa friction are changing how clients get to and between camps.

Nawiri heads to Swiss control; Kapama takes sales in-house

Two supplier-side changes touch advisor relationships. A Squared Holding AG is seeking sole ownership of Nawiri, parent of Asilia (about 15 Tanzanian camps) and Go2Africa. Management says operations stay unchanged, but Tanzania's competition review is under way, so timing and conditions are open. Watch for any shift in distribution, commission or supplier-preference practice.

Kapama is moving sales in-house after 23 years with An African Anthology. From the end of February 2027, advisors will deal with Kapama's own reservations and sales teams. Kapama says contracting and commissions stay the same. Confirm 2027 rates, contacts and rep-firm arrangements before holding or quoting new bookings.

Mauritius hit by worst unrest since 1999

Protests in Mauritius escalated after police shot a woman on 9 October. Schools are closed and businesses are being told to work from home. The unrest is described as the island's worst since 1999, putting about $2.2 billion in tourism earnings at risk.

Advisors with beach extensions to Mauritius on African itineraries should check current government advisories and contact clients now. Review airline, hotel and insurance cancellation and rebooking terms before travellers depart.

&Beyond Xaranna closes for rebuild until August 2027

Xaranna Okavango will be unavailable until August 2027. It returns as an all-suite lodge with nine 160 sqm suites with private pools and a 404 sqm Family Suite.

Advisors should rebook affected clients now. Expect higher rates on reopening and new family and wellness positioning, which may suit multigenerational clients better than the previous product.

Greater Kruger access and dining: Orpen detour, camp restaurants

January's floods forced a longer, potholed detour via Acornhoek on the Hoedspruit–Orpen route, adding at least 30 minutes and causing missed game drives. A new tarred SANRAL detour was due to open after 11 October. Confirm it is operating before quoting transfer times. Permanent repairs will take time, and a cracked second bridge could force a much longer detour.

Inside Kruger, SANParks is replacing or refurbishing restaurant operators at four camps: Wimpy at Pretoriuskop, Mugg & Bean at Lower Sabie, Tindlovu at Berg-en-Dal and Cattle Baron at Skukuza. Temporary limited menus will run during works, so set dining expectations for self-drive guests.

Visa friction costs South Africa Latin American and Indian business

Colombian visa processing runs through Venezuela and takes 45 days or more, and some Guatemalan agents won't sell South Africa at all. Arrivals from India fell 29.8% in January–August. Air India has applied for a direct-route permit, which could revive that demand if approved.

For advisors working these source markets, build long visa lead times into quotes and start applications early.

East Africa floats joint visa for AFCON 2027

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania plan a joint visa for AFCON 2027, scheduled for 19 June–17 July 2027. A unified entry scheme would ease multi-country trips and could carry over into safari combinations during peak migration season.

Details are unconfirmed, so treat it as a proposal. Expect a demand surge and tight June–July availability, and consider holding space early for clients wanting migration timing.
