Nepal's autumn season buckles as floods and failed ropes close routes

A Budhi Gandaki flood has cut the Manaslu Circuit while Dhaulagiri joins Manaslu with no client summits, leaving Nepal bookings in need of rebooking and refund conversations. Elsewhere, Antarctica is filling fast and 2027 small-ship inventory is shifting.

Manaslu Circuit cut by flash flood; operators cancel Manaslu and Tsum treks

A landslide-driven flood on the Budhi Gandaki washed out bridges and isolated the Chum Valley, with helicopter evacuations under way. Operators are cancelling autumn Manaslu and Tsum departures.

What it means for advisors: check any client booked on a Manaslu or Tsum itinerary now and start rebooking. The Mountain Company is diverting groups to Upper Mustang combined with Thorong La, and the Annapurna Circuit should get busier, so secure lodge and permit space early. The flood follows August's Langtang GLOF, so Nepal's autumn season is under repeated strain. Build contingency language into any remaining Nepal trekking sales.

Dhaulagiri joins Manaslu with no client summits as rope dispute escalates

Dhaulagiri is the second Nepali 8,000er this autumn with no client summits, after Manaslu. Bargiel and the commercial teams turned back, and rope-fixing stopped amid a public dispute between climbers and Seven Summit Treks over why the ropes were abandoned.

What it means for advisors: expect refund and credit disputes on expedition climbs, and closer scrutiny of operator rope-fixing policy. Ask suppliers in writing about their cancellation and summit-failure terms. Permits for Kangchenjunga and Lhotse have not been issued, which leaves Everest as the only open summit chance for now.

Antarctica 2026-27 passes 90% full as dynamic pricing spreads

Top Antarctic operators report more than 90% occupancy as the season opens, and most now use on-demand pricing. Last-minute deals are unlikely, and rates will climb on the best cabins and dates.

What it means for advisors: push undecided clients to commit now. The new 76-guest hybrid-electric Magellan Discoverer launches in December for air-cruise operations out of Punta Arenas, which gives you a sustainability selling point for clients who want a lower-impact option.

2027 small-ship moves: Lindblad swaps Alaska ships, Galapagos gets new vessels

In Alaska, Lindblad replaces Sea Bird and Sea Lion with the 154-guest Greg Mortimer on 8-day Vancouver–Sitka cruises. Wilderness Explorer returns on June 13, 2027. Denali Park Road reopens after six years, and Alaska Airlines adds Seattle–Athens and Seattle–Paris nonstops in May.

In Galapagos, two 16-guest luxury catamarans launch: Grand Ocean Spray now and Galapagos Eminence in April 2027. The 8-guest hybrid-electric Conservation follows in late 2027.

What it means for advisors: these changes affect 2027 inventory, so plan early bookings around them. The source is partly promotional, so confirm details with suppliers.

Hurtigruten's full-route biofuel sailing gives advisors verifiable figures

MS Richard With sailed the full Bergen–Kirkenes route on HVO100 with paying guests. Scope 1 CO2 per guest is down 18% against 2018, and NOx is down more than 69%.

What it means for advisors: these are concrete numbers for clients asking about greenwashing. The source is ATTA-collaborative content and notes the Americas head has left, so treat the claims with some caution and ask Hurtigruten for the underlying data before repeating them.

Intrepid discounts November and December departures

Intrepid is discounting late-year departures: Croatia & Slovenia is 30% off (£1,455), Kenya Wildlife Safari is £266 off, and Vietnam & Cambodia is £209 off.

What it means for advisors: these could suit clients with flexible dates. The coverage is consumer-facing and UK-priced, so check US availability and commission treatment before quoting.
