Hurricane Rachel pulls Cabo from Pacific Mexico itineraries
Hurricane Rachel, a Category 2 storm with 100 mph winds, is still strengthening and moving west-northwest near 19.4N 109.3W. Carnival Panorama has been cut to an Ensenada-only itinerary, with a $300 per stateroom onboard credit. Carnival Miracle and Cunard's Queen Elizabeth cancelled their Oct 1 Cabo calls. Virgin's Brilliant Lady sails from Los Angeles Oct 3, and its backup itinerary has not been announced.
Advisors with clients on Mexican Riviera sailings this week should reach out before the cruise line does. Confirm the current itinerary, set expectations on compensation, and watch for further changes as the storm tracks.
Royal Caribbean reassigns Ovation guests who paid to choose cabins
Guests who paid about $300 extra to pick exact staterooms on Ovation of the Seas' Oct 12 sailing have shown guarantee (GTY) status since June 30. They have now lost the cabins they selected. Compensation has been inconsistent: some guests received upgrades or onboard credit, and others were denied.
Advisors with Ovation clients should check those bookings now. Press for an upgrade or onboard credit, and set expectations on any fees paid for cabin selection. The same handling could repeat on other sailings.
Royal Caribbean opens 2028 Alaska with four ships; Europe batch due in about two weeks
Booking for Royal Caribbean's 2028 Alaska season opened to the public Oct 1, after Crown & Anchor access. The four ships are Anthem (one-way Vancouver–Seward with Cruisetours), Ovation (Seattle), Voyager (Seattle) and Serenade (Vancouver). Compared with the prior lineup, the newly amplified Ovation replaces Quantum and Serenade replaces Radiance.
The second 2028-29 deployment batch, covering Europe, is expected in about two weeks. Advisors can start pitching early-booking and Cruisetour packages now.
Carnival and Holland America open 2028 West Coast, Hawaii and Canada/New England
Carnival Adventure moves from Australia to Seattle for 18 seven-night Alaska sailings between May and September 2028. Legend sails Alaska and Baja from San Francisco. Spirit has a 16-night Tampa-to-Seattle Panama Canal Journeys sailing and 11 Hawaii sailings from Long Beach. Bookings opened Oct 1.
Holland America has opened 27 Canada/New England sailings on Volendam and Zuiderdam, May to October 2028, and says no other line will make more Montréal calls. Zuiderdam will be the second ship through the $500M Evolution programme. Both give advisors long-lead inventory to sell early.
MSC World Atlantic floats out as 2027 new-ship picture firms up
MSC World Atlantic (215,863 GT, the fourth World Class ship) has floated out. It debuts Nov 13, 2027 from Port Canaveral on 7- and 14-night Caribbean sailings, which are already bookable. Port Canaveral is finishing a $95M Terminal 10 expansion, and Carnival Festivale arrives there in May 2027.
PortMiami's 2026-27 lineup adds Norwegian Aura in June 2027 and Hero of the Seas in August 2027. Advisors can use these dates to plan group and early-booking sales for 2027.
West Coast last-minute fares drop to $199–$300 per person on Royal Caribbean
Close-in West Coast fares are soft. Ovation of the Seas is as low as $199 per person for Nov 2–6, and Voyager of the Seas is $249 per person for 7 nights on Nov 13. Other sailings are priced at $220–$400.
This could bring price-drop and rebooking requests from clients who booked higher. Advisors should check recent bookings for price adjustments and consider offering these fares to flexible clients.
Oceania adds a full Mediterranean winter season on Allura
Oceania has launched its first full Mediterranean winter season, running November 2027 to March 2028 on Allura. It has 17 sailings of 9 to 26 days from Barcelona, Rome, Athens and Istanbul. The season extends the line's Europe programme into winter for the first time.
It gives advisors a premium, off-peak Europe option for repeat luxury-leaning clients.
Princess launches a ChatGPT app for cruise planning
Princess launched the first cruise-line app inside ChatGPT on Sept 28. Consumers can search sailings and check pricing conversationally across 330+ destinations. It points to possible channel disintermediation and AI-driven shopping.
Advisors should check how the app handles agent booking attribution and pricing parity. It is early, and the commercial impact is still unclear.
