Hurricane Rachel forces Pacific reroutes and Cabo cancellations
Rachel is a 100 mph hurricane near 19.4N 109.3W, moving WNW. Carnival Panorama dropped La Paz and Cabo and now calls at Ensenada twice, with a $300 onboard credit per stateroom. Carnival Miracle and Cunard's Queen Elizabeth cancelled Cabo on Oct 1. Virgin's Brilliant Lady, departing Los Angeles Oct 3, has a backup plan but no announced itinerary.
For advisors: contact Mexican Riviera clients proactively and check each line's compensation policy. Expect rebooking and compensation questions on sailings that haven't been changed yet.
Royal Caribbean reassigns pre-selected Ovation cabins, compensation uneven
Guests who paid about $300 extra for an exact cabin on Ovation of the Seas are being moved to guarantee (GTY) status and reassigned for occupancy reasons. The Oct 12 and Aug 14 sailings are affected. Compensation is inconsistent: some guests received onboard credit or upgrades, others nothing.
For advisors: review Ovation bookings and set client expectations now. Where a paid cabin-selection fee was lost, escalate to your Royal Caribbean business development contact.
Royal Caribbean opens 2028 Alaska across four ships
The first batch of Royal Caribbean's 2028-29 deployment went on sale to the public Oct 1, with Crown & Anchor members getting earlier access. Ovation of the Seas, after its Amplification, sails from Seattle alongside Voyager. Serenade sails from Vancouver. Anthem runs one-way Vancouver-Seward with 2-6 night Cruisetours, tied to the new Alaska Railroad terminal. Europe 2028-29 follows in about two weeks.
For advisors: early-booking pitches and Cruisetour land packages can start now.
Carnival opens 2028-29 West Coast, Alaska and Hawaii sales
Bookings opened Oct 1. Carnival Adventure relocates from Australia to Seattle for its Alaska debut, with 18 seven-night sailings. Legend sails Alaska and Baja from San Francisco. Spirit offers a 16-night Panama Canal Journey from Tampa and Hawaii sailings from Long Beach.
For advisors: this is early inventory for Alaska and Hawaii, and the longer Journeys sailings carry higher fares.
MSC World Atlantic floats out; Port Canaveral debut set for Nov 2027
MSC's fourth World Class ship (about 215,863 GT, 25th in the fleet) has reached its float-out milestone. It debuts Nov 13, 2027 from Port Canaveral on alternating 7- and 14-night Caribbean sailings, all calling at Ocean Cay. Inaugural-season sales are open. Port Canaveral is finishing a $95M Terminal 10 expansion, and Carnival Festivale also debuts there in May 2027.
For advisors: both ships can be pitched now for 2027 family bookings.
Holland America opens 2028 Canada/New England, with Zuiderdam Evolution debut
Holland America has put 27 sailings on Volendam and Zuiderdam on sale for May-Oct 2028. They run from Montréal, Québec City, Boston, New York and Fort Lauderdale. HAL says it will have more Montréal calls than any other line. Zuiderdam is the first Evolution-refit ship to sail the region, part of a $500M, six-ship program.
For advisors: the refit is a product-upgrade selling point for premium clients.
West Coast Royal Caribbean fares fall to $199-$400
Royal Caribbean sailings from Los Angeles and San Diego on Ovation, Voyager and Serenade are priced from about $199-$400 per person for 3-8 nights in Nov-Jan. The discounting suggests soft close-in demand and the Pacific hurricane disruption, and it undercuts advisor-booked pricing and commission value.
For advisors: expect price-protection and rebooking requests.
Carnival requires full muster drills on six Oct 8-12 sailings
Carnival Spirit, Luminosa, Legend, Radiance, Firenze and Miracle will run full in-person muster drills on Oct 8-12 departures. The sailings range from 7 to 16 nights. Carnival says it already holds full drills twice a year for compliance, and self-mustering continues on other sailings.
For advisors: tell affected clients to expect the drill on embarkation day.
