Riviera Travel moves on policy and possible ownership as AmaWaterways builds out long-haul river-plus-land

Riviera Travel's new agent-facing holiday guarantee, born of Rhine and Danube low-water disruption, lands alongside reports that its private-equity owners are sounding out buyers. Separately, AmaWaterways adds a Machu Picchu extension to its Colombia itinerary.

Riviera Travel formalises its low-water promise as an agent-facing guarantee

Riviera Travel has turned its five-point low-water promise into a holiday guarantee covering all escorted tours and river cruises. When an itinerary changes significantly, clients can continue, move or cancel, with consistent compensation and proactive communication to agents.

For advisors, the practical gain is a defined script for disruption conversations on Rhine and Danube sailings, rather than case-by-case improvisation. It also puts pressure on competitors to publish comparable policies ahead of winter and Christmas Markets sailings, when clients will ask what happens if water levels force changes. Advisors selling Riviera should read the terms and keep them on file for client conversations at the point of sale.

Riviera Travel reportedly exploring a sale

The Sunday Times and The Times report that Riviera Travel's private-equity backers are in early talks with potential buyers. The company reportedly had revenue of more than £255m last year. Riviera declined to comment, so none of this is confirmed.

A change of ownership could affect agent commission, trading terms and fleet or product strategy. Advisors with meaningful Riviera volume should watch for developments, but there is no reason to change bookings on the strength of early-stage reports. The timing sits alongside the new guarantee, which gives agents a reassuring message to carry into winter sales.

AmaWaterways adds a six-day Machu Picchu extension to Magic of Colombia

AmaWaterways has added a six-day Machu Picchu extension to its Magic of Colombia itinerary. It is offered on selected April 2027 sailings and on every post-cruise sailing of the itinerary from 2028, with Belmond or Inca Rail options.

The extension is outside Europe and is a land add-on rather than a new ship or route. Its value for advisors is a higher booking value per client and an upsell on the Colombia (Magdalena) river product, supporting long-haul river-plus-land packaging for clients who already travel with the line.
