Tanzania extends Ebola health declaration to every arrival
All travellers entering Tanzania must now complete an online health declaration and keep the QR code for port health checks. Temperature screening applies at every entry point. The rule was previously limited to arrivals from DRC and Uganda.
Zanzibar runs a separate requirement: forms for arrivals from DRC, Uganda or Kenya.
What it means: every northern-circuit and Zanzibar client is now affected, not just those routing through the region. Advisors should brief clients before departure, build buffer into arrival-day connections, and watch for wider Ebola-related restrictions or cancellations.
Western Serengeti adds a Marriott-branded camp and a golf course at Fort Ikoma
Mereshi Safari Camp (Autograph Collection) is due to open in November near Fort Ikoma Gate. It has 18 tents, a pool, a spa and two restaurants, and is aimed at the 2027 season. A branded-chain camp may bring different commission and loyalty dynamics, so request rates and trade terms early.
Separately, TANAPA launched an 18-hole, par-72 golf course at Fort Ikoma on October 18. It is pitched as an add-on to lengthen stays and targets international tournaments. Golf-minded or multigenerational groups may like it, but expect a divided reaction from conservation-minded luxury clients.
Proflight adds northern Zambia frequencies
Proflight Zambia has added capacity on routes that connect to Johannesburg. Kasama doubles to six flights a week. Solwezi gets extra Friday and Tuesday/Wednesday services. Mansa is daily, with runway and terminal upgrades.
The changes ease routing into northern Zambia, including Kasama-gateway trips toward Bangweulu and Kasanka. Some October flights may change for maintenance, so check schedules before confirming.
Rwanda lands a 10-year F1 deal; the EAC leans on AFCON 2027
Rwanda's 10-year Formula 1 agreement points to a Kigali Grand Prix in the early 2030s, on a purpose-built circuit near the new airport. It would need more wide-body capacity from Johannesburg, Nairobi, Lagos and Addis. South Africa is still bidding for its own race. This is a long-dated signal for gorilla-plus-event packages.
In the nearer term, East African Community ministers approved a 2027–2036 tourism strategy. It includes harmonised hospitality standards and cross-border packages, and uses AFCON 2027 as a lever. Event periods may strain flights and rooms in host cities, so watch for multi-country package options.
South African arrivals keep climbing into 2027
International overnight arrivals rose 7.4% year on year in August 2026, 9.8% in June and 11.8% in January. South Africa recorded a record 10.5 million arrivals in 2025 and has 15 investment-ready tourism projects worth R3.5bn.
Firm demand points to tighter peak availability and steady pricing into 2027. Advisors should secure key camps early.
Kruger signs renewable wheeling deal
SANParks and Ampli Energy will supply about 7.25 million kWh a year to Kruger, covering over 25% of its electricity from renewables. SANParks is considering extending the model to other parks.
There is no direct pricing effect, but it reduces exposure to grid problems and gives advisors a concrete point for eco-conscious client messaging.
Damaging waves on the KZN coast; veld-fire and heat alerts elsewhere
SAWS warns of damaging waves at Durban, Tugela Mouth, Mtunzini and Cape Vidal today. Veld-fire conditions affect the Karoo, and Limpopo (Mokopane) faces extreme heat. Cape Town has several days of rain.
Advisors with clients in iSimangaliso/Cape Vidal or Limpopo should check activity and transfer plans.
