Flydubai suspends Israel flights; advisors need to rebook
Flydubai has suspended its Israel service following the cockpit attack on its captain, and Israel is tightening checks on foreign pilots after a loophole came to light. Regev is pushing for longer suspensions. Netanyahu has said the attacker went through Islamist radical indoctrination and has pledged new security measures. How the weapon was obtained in the cockpit is still unclear, with questions over whether an emergency axe was used.
The commercial effect is real. Flydubai carried about 420,000 passengers to or from Ben Gurion this year, roughly 4% of the airport's international traffic and third among foreign carriers. It is a main link to Asia and Africa.
For advisors: clients booked on Israel, Dubai or onward Far East and African routings should be rebooked now. Expect capacity and fare pressure on El Al, Etihad and other carriers, and possible delays from the new pilot checks.
Iran reportedly readies a wider retaliation, possibly beyond the region
Reuters reports that Tehran is telling proxies in Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen to be ready, and is weighing targets in countries that support US operations, possibly outside the Middle East. This is a report about plans, not a confirmed action, and it comes alongside a separate report that Iran has offered inspectors access to damaged facilities in exchange for sanctions relief. Iranian officials are also said to privately see little chance of a deal, which raises the odds of disruption.
For advisors: clients booked on Israel, Gulf-connection or other Middle East itineraries should have their cancellation and travel-insurance terms reviewed, and contingency routings prepared. The Strait of Hormuz and Gulf airspace are the main exposures. With flydubai already out of the Israel market, fallback options are thinner than usual.
