Booking isn't the end of the shop: BRG complaint meets the data
A Lifetime Platinum member reports a Marriott Best Rate Guarantee claim on the Sheraton Hong Kong went unanswered for more than five days, despite a 24-hour response promise. The member also says Marriott changed the terms about three months ago to stop emailing claim updates. It is a single account, so treat it as a signal rather than proof of a program-wide failure.
The context comes from Skift's McKinsey-based data: 41% of US travelers keep shopping after booking a hotel, 29% keep looking at alternatives, and 51% have changed a hotel after seeing a better option on social media.
For advisors, don't rely on BRG as a rate-recovery tool. Favor refundable rates, monitor prices after booking and rebook when they drop, and anchor the sale in value-adds that a lower OTA price doesn't match.
UAE hotels turn to nearby markets as long-haul demand lags
Dubai and UAE hotels are leaning on short-haul source markets, including India, China and Russia, to drive recovery after the US-Iran war. IHCL (Taj) says high jet fuel prices and airfares are keeping travelers from the Americas and Australia away, and cheaper rooms are making Dubai more affordable.
Capacity is still tight at the long-haul end: Lufthansa Group, Swiss and Eurowings have postponed their Dubai service resumption until November 25, 2026.
For advisors, softer long-haul demand may give some negotiating leverage and discounted rates for Dubai and the UAE. Check airline routings before quoting, since the Lufthansa Group delay removes some European connections for now.
Accor stacks two promotions; Hyatt adds Aeroplan accrual
ALL Accor+ Mega Bonus: ibis and Voyager subscribers can earn 5,000 or 9,000 bonus points for stays through January 22, 2027, booked by November 20. The offer applies to existing subscribers worldwide with no activation, per Accor. It is bookable through Accor channels only, so third-party and GDS bookings won't earn it. Advisor-booked stays may miss out.
Double points in the Americas: ALL Accor is offering double points across North and Central America and the Caribbean through December 31. It covers Fairmont, Sofitel, Banyan Tree, SLS, Faena, 21c and other properties, for stays of two nights or more with registration required, up to five stays.
World of Hyatt and Aeroplan: a dual-accrual offer earns 1.5 miles per USD for stays through February 14, 2027, with registration by November 11. The write-up also notes Hyatt is dropping American Airlines for Delta as its airline partner, which may affect Hyatt-loyal clients' earning choices.
Mandarin Oriental sets climate-risk profiles for every hotel
Mandarin Oriental has launched MO•RE, a sustainability platform that includes a climate-risk assessment for every hotel. CEO Laurent Kleitman frames it as a business-resilience measure as heat squeezes margins. The plan includes a net-zero pathway by 2050 and Scope 3 visibility.
There is no immediate commercial change for bookings. It is a modest signal for advisors with sustainability-minded luxury clients who ask what a brand is doing about climate exposure.
