Royal Caribbean reportedly in talks for 50% of Sandals
Royal Caribbean is reportedly in talks to take a 50% stake in Sandals Resorts, according to Skift's weekly roundup. This is reported discussion, not a signed deal.
For advisors, the question is what a cruise major would do to the Caribbean's biggest all-inclusive brand. Distribution, pricing and commission structure could all change, and cruise-and-stay packaging is a plausible outcome. None of that is confirmed.
Until terms emerge, there is no reason to change how Sandals is booked or quoted. Watch for any announcement on advisor programs and commission levels, since Sandals is a commission-heavy product for many leisure sellers.
Mandarin Oriental flag at Boca Raton condo in doubt
The Palm Beach Post reports that residential owners at the Mandarin Oriental condo in Boca Raton are rebuffing a lender, putting the future of the hotel brand at the property in question.
Details are thin. The risk is a de-flag or an operator change, which could affect the standards, loyalty recognition and amenities clients expect.
Advisors with clients booked at the Boca property, or considering it, should confirm brand status and any program benefits before travel. Check that Fine Hotels-style or chain-specific perks tied to the Mandarin Oriental name still apply. Nothing has been announced yet, so this is a watch item rather than a reason to rebook.
IHG and Chase refresh cards; Premier drops to Gold status
IHG and Chase have refreshed their co-brand cards and added a Premier Select card. On the Premier card, the annual fee rises to $150 and the automatic status drops from Platinum to Gold. The annual free night rises to 50K points. A path to a free fourth night is tied to $5K of spend from 2027.
The status downgrade matters most for advisors. Cardholder clients will see fewer elite benefits and a weaker claim on upgrades than before. Reset expectations before booking, and don't assume Platinum-level treatment for Premier cardholders.
The higher-value free night helps clients who redeem at pricier IHG brands, but it comes with the higher fee.
Asian luxury chains build pipelines
Several Asia and India-based luxury chains outlined growth plans.
Pan Pacific has 10 new-build and renovation projects planned across Southeast Asia in 2027. They include bringing the Pan Pacific brand to Bangkok and Phnom Penh and renovating Parkroyal Collection Pickering in Singapore. Advisors planning 2027 itineraries should check for disruption or relaunch pricing.
Leela Palaces plans to grow from 8 to 15 hotels and open its first overseas resort on Palm Jumeirah in 2028, per its CEO. That adds India luxury inventory and a Dubai option.
Shangri-La and SM Prime will develop a 90-key resort in Batangas, with about 40 villas and 50 rooms, opening in 2031. It is a pipeline signal, not something to sell now.
Kempinski names a new CFO
Kempinski Group has appointed a new Chief Financial Officer, per a trade report. The source gives little detail beyond the appointment.
A finance chief change at a European luxury chain with US-advisor relationships can precede shifts in growth, financing or ownership strategy, though nothing here says that is happening. Advisors who sell Kempinski should watch for follow-on leadership or portfolio announcements rather than read much into this one.
