Hurricane Rachel strips Mexican Pacific calls from multiple lines
Rachel, a Category 2 storm with 100 mph winds, is strengthening off Mexico's Pacific coast after Hurricane Polo. Carnival Panorama and Miracle, Cunard Queen Elizabeth and Royal Caribbean Navigator have lost calls at Cabo, La Paz, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta. Carnival is giving $300 onboard credit per stateroom on Panorama. Virgin's Brilliant Lady has a pending itinerary change on its Oct. 3 Los Angeles sailing.
Advisors with clients on Mexican Riviera sailings this week should expect further changes. Ask each line about compensation rather than waiting for it to be offered, since the Panorama credit is the only figure reported so far. NHC's Atlantic outlook shows no tropical cyclones at this time, so the disruption is confined to the Pacific.
Ovation of the Seas guests lose pre-selected cabins
Royal Caribbean is reassigning guests who paid extra, about $300, to choose a specific stateroom on Ovation of the Seas. They are being moved to guarantee (GTY) status because of occupancy adjustments. The affected sailings include Oct. 12 and Aug. 14.
Compensation is inconsistent. Some guests have received upgrades or onboard credit, and others nothing. Advisors with Ovation bookings should check cabin status now and push Royal Caribbean for an upgrade or credit before final assignment.
Royal Caribbean opens 2028 Alaska with four ships and Seward Cruisetours
The first 2028-29 deployment batch went on sale to the public Oct. 1. An amplified Ovation of the Seas replaces Quantum and moves to Seattle, where Voyager also sails. Serenade sails from Vancouver, and Anthem runs one-way Vancouver–Seward with 2–6 night Cruisetours using the new Alaska Railroad terminal. The Europe deployment follows in about two weeks.
Early booking gives the best cabin selection, and the Cruisetours add a land-package upsell. Given the Ovation cabin reassignments above, advisors may want to confirm how pre-selected cabins are protected on new bookings.
Carnival opens 2028–29 West Coast, with Adventure debuting in Alaska
Bookings opened Oct. 1. Carnival Adventure repositions from Australia to Seattle for 18 seven-night Alaska sailings. Carnival Legend sails Alaska and Baja from San Francisco. Carnival Spirit runs a 16-night Tampa–Seattle Panama Canal Journeys cruise and 11 Hawaii Journeys sailings.
This gives advisors new West Coast inventory, plus longer Journeys itineraries that carry higher revenue per booking.
MSC World Atlantic floats out; Florida homeports add new ships for 2027
MSC World Atlantic, the fourth World Class ship at about 216,000 GT and the 25th in the fleet, has floated out on schedule. She debuts Nov. 13, 2027, alternating 7- and 14-night Caribbean sailings with Ocean Cay calls, and itineraries are already bookable. Port Canaveral is finishing a $95M Terminal 10 expansion for her.
Port Canaveral expects 23 homeported ships and 10.9M passenger movements in 2027, including Carnival Festivale in May. PortMiami adds Norwegian Aura in June 2027 and Hero of the Seas in August 2027, along with Explora III and others. Useful for early-booking, group and 2027 Florida capacity planning.
Holland America opens 2028 Canada/New England with reimagined Zuiderdam
Holland America has opened 27 sailings of 7–14 nights on Volendam and Zuiderdam in 2028. No line will make more Montréal calls than Holland America that year. Zuiderdam is the second ship through the $500M, six-ship Evolution program.
The release gives advisors a premium-mass fall foliage product with the first upgraded ship in the region.
West Coast Royal Caribbean fares fall to $199–$400 per person
Voyager, Ovation and Serenade sailings from Los Angeles and San Diego through January are priced from about $199 to $400 per person for interior cabins. Advisors should expect price-match and rebooking requests from recent bookers, and can use these as quick-sale or gap-filler options. Hurricane-affected Mexico sailings could add more discounting.
Oceania schedules a first full Mediterranean winter season
Oceania Allura will sail 17 voyages of 9–26 days from Nov. 2027 to March 2028, from Barcelona, Rome, Athens and Istanbul. The 2027-28 Europe program is also open. Premium winter Mediterranean inventory is rare, which makes it useful for off-season and longer-stay clients.
