Expedition capacity is being sold years out, while a Whittier dock fire clouds Alaska 2027

Quark and Travelmarvel have committed to a 99-suite polar newbuild for 2029, and HX has opened 2028/29 with 26 new itineraries. Closer in, Seabourn's Encore is set for Alaska in 2027, and a fire at the new Whittier pier puts a question mark over that season.

Quark and Travelmarvel commit to a 99-suite PC6 polar ship for 2029

Quark Expeditions and Travelmarvel will share a new 99-suite, PC6 ice-class ship under a 10-year charter. It starts with the 2029-30 season and splits its year between Travelmarvel Mediterranean cruising and Quark Antarctic sailings.

For advisors, this adds premium small-ship Antarctic capacity that can be planned years ahead. The ship's name, specifications and itineraries have not been released, so there is no inventory or pricing to quote yet. Travelmarvel's UK and Ireland advisor channel will also carry the ship, which may make it more visible to advisors outside the usual expedition-specialist circle. For now this is a marker for long-range client conversations, not a product to sell.

HX opens 2028/29 with 26 new itineraries and its largest Svalbard program

HX Expeditions has launched 57 voyages across 14 destinations for 2028/29, so clients can book two years out for polar and Arctic sailings.

New products include:

  • a 19-day Antarctica & South Georgia voyage on Roald Amundsen
  • Falklands (Stanley) departures on Fram, which cut transit time
  • Alaska Inside Passage and Aleutian voyages
  • a Nuuk roundtrip in Greenland
  • a Baffin Island/Northwest Passage voyage
  • HX's first Scandinavia and Baltic program

HX will run 23 Svalbard departures in 2028, and Galápagos sailings continue year-round on Santa Cruz II. The early release gives advisors a long runway for clients who want polar and Arctic space.

Fire leaves new Whittier cruise dock a 'total loss'; 2027 operations in doubt

Alaska's fire marshal has called the new Whittier cruise pier a total loss after a fire. Owner Huna Totem is still assessing the damage and says it aims to be operational for 2027.

Whittier is a gateway for Alaska sailings, including HX's new 17-day Aleutian Islands voyage between Vancouver and Whittier. Advisors with 2027 Alaska clients on itineraries that touch Whittier should watch for changes to embarkation, ports or routing. Until operators confirm plans, avoid firm promises about Whittier-dependent arrangements, and consider telling affected clients early that the situation is being monitored.

Seabourn Encore returns to Alaska in 2027 with a Denali land program and gear inclusions

Seabourn Encore will make 18 Alaska departures from May to September 2027, ranging from 7 to 15 days.

The main new product is a 7-night Denali Experience pre-cruise package. It bundles hotel, meals, rail, flightseeing and transfers, and is available to guests on the southbound Juneau–Vancouver sailings. On the ship, every Alaska guest gets a complimentary Helly Hansen jacket, and Premium Suite guests get a Swarovski Optik binocular loan.

That gives advisors a packaged land-plus-sea offer and a concrete value-add story for Alaska. The Whittier dock fire is a separate 2027 Alaska watch item, so it is worth checking how any given departure is affected before quoting.

Regent's Seven Seas Prestige adds Solmar Terrace and Azure ahead of Dec. 13 inaugural

Regent's first new ship class in over a decade enters service on Dec. 13, 2026, with a 14-night Barcelona–Miami transatlantic. Seven Seas Prestige then sails Caribbean and Panama Canal itineraries before returning to Europe in 2027–28.

Two new venues, Solmar Terrace and Azure, are included in the all-inclusive dining program. For advisors, that supports the case for the ship's differentiation during the inaugural season, which is less than three months away. Clients who want to be among the first aboard should be approached now, while inaugural-season inventory is still available.

Explora Journeys puts Explora I in Patagonia for Winter 2027–28

Explora Journeys has set its Winter 2027–28 collections. Explora I sails from December 2027 to March 2028 through Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, the Falklands and Chile, including Cape Horn and the Beagle Channel. The program has 20 maiden ports, 5 overnight stays and Christmas and New Year's Eve at sea.

Explora V's first winter program covers the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Canary Islands and Madeira.

For advisors, this opens holiday-season inventory and gives a Patagonia option to clients who want a luxury ship rather than an expedition vessel.

Silversea's new suite categories and Quark's loyalty changes: details still needed

Two supplier changes with direct commercial impact arrived with few details.

Silversea has announced four new suite categories. These can change how inventory is priced and sold, including upsell paths, suite-level inclusions and commissionable fare structure. Category names, pricing and ship applicability were not in the coverage we have, so pull them from Silversea's trade channels before quoting.

Quark Expeditions has also changed its loyalty membership program. The changes could affect repeat-client benefits, past-guest pricing and rebooking strategy. Confirm the specifics, effective dates and any effect on commissions or on-board credits with Quark before advising returning clients.

Lindblad beats Q2 estimates and wins an upgrade, yet shares slip on macro pressure

Lindblad Expeditions reported Q2 revenue of $199.3M against $185.9M expected, and Wall Street Zen upgraded the stock to Buy on Sept. 20. Even so, shares fell 4% on Sept. 18, as rising yields and weaker consumer expectations weighed on consumer-discretionary travel stocks.

The reported numbers point to strong expedition demand. The stock move points to caution on the consumer side. Advisors should watch for softness among less affluent premium clients, which could affect promotions and inventory pressure into 2027. This is one company's results and a market reaction, so treat it as a modest signal rather than a trend.

National Geographic Expeditions offers up to $5,000 pp off 2028 private jet trips; new 23-day foodie itinerary
Savings of up to $5,000 pp, or an extra $2,500 for returning guests, apply to select 2028 private jet expeditions if booked by Dec 17, 2026. The new 23-day 'Tasting the World by Private Jet' departs Apr 28, 2028. Other eligible departures are Around the World (Jan 4 and Jan 31) and Wildlife of the World (Mar 10). It is a deadline-driven offer advisors can use with high-net-worth expedition clients. It is land/air rather than ship, so relevance to cruise advisors is adjacent.

A day heavy on long-lead product and light on hard pricing: several announcements need trade-channel follow-up before anyone quotes. The Whittier fire is the one item to keep watching, since it could affect 2027 Alaska plans. — The Desk
