Crowded peaks, date-locked trips and 2027-28 inventory: the adventure calendar is tightening

Manaslu's record crowds and a closing cyclone window show how little slack fall expeditions carry. Meanwhile National Geographic Expeditions and G Adventures have opened 30 new 2027-28 itineraries, and Primitivo Travel is adapting its Camino eclipse trip for the Aug 2, 2027 totality in Spain.

Manaslu's record crowd meets an avalanche and an incoming cyclone

Nepal's most popular fall peak is running at record numbers: 480-493 foreign clients, permits that may exceed 500, and more than 1,000 people on the mountain. An avalanche has buried fixed ropes, two climbers have died of altitude sickness, and a Bay of Bengal cyclone is pushing teams to skip rest days to reach the summit before the weather turns.

For advisors with clients on Manaslu or other Nepal fall treks, the useful questions are operational. Ask the operator about its weather contingency, rescue and evacuation cover, and refund or rebooking terms if the window closes. Skipped rest days raise altitude risk, so ask how the operator is managing acclimatisation.

Expect scrutiny of permit caps and crowding rules once the season ends. That could affect 2027 availability and pricing on the most popular Nepal peaks.

National Geographic Expeditions and G Adventures add 30 itineraries for 2027-28

The co-branded range adds 24 new National Geographic Journeys and 6 updated Family Journeys, with 2027-28 departures open for early booking. Two products stand out for advisors: an 8-day Wildlife of the Galápagos trip, and a 9-day Peru Family Journey covering the Amazon and Machu Picchu, for ages 7+.

The range gives advisors new small-group, family and science-led products to sell well ahead of departure. Before pitching it, check two commercial points: the commission level on the co-branded product, and whether pricing sits above standard G Adventures departures. That will tell you which clients it suits: those who want the National Geographic name and are willing to pay for it, or those who mainly want a small-group itinerary.

Eclipse trip in Spain proves the model, and the 2027 Granada version is next

Root Adventures and Primitivo Travel ran a multi-sport Camino Primitivo trip combining hiking, horseback and biking. It ended at Lugo under totality on Aug 12. Primitivo is now adapting its 'Tears for Granada' tour for the Aug 2, 2027 total eclipse in southern Spain.

Eclipse-timed trips book out early and put pressure on accommodation along the totality path. For advisors with active-travel clients, the practical step is to hold space and price early. The trip also shows that a niche, date-locked product can find demand, and a fixed date means the booking window won't move.
