KLM cancels its own flights through early March to build reserve aircraft
KLM is pre-emptively cancelling selected intercontinental flights from today, Oct 26, through early March 2027. The aim is to hold reserve long-haul aircraft so maintenance delays don't surface at the gate. No route list has been released.
For advisors, the commercial point is that winter bookings on KLM, and on Air France-KLM and SkyTeam itineraries that include KLM, may be changed or reaccommodated. Review corporate bookings on KLM long-haul now rather than waiting for a notification, and confirm the carrier has your clients' contact details. Check connections especially closely, since a cancelled leg can strand a through itinerary. Expect more detail as KLM publishes affected flights.
JetBlue creditors hire advisers as bankruptcy risk grows
Senior creditors have retained advisers, JetBlue's stock closed at $2.62, and its 2031 bonds have fallen to 42 cents on the dollar. Together these point to a growing risk of a Chapter 11 filing.
Advisors with JetBlue-heavy corporate contracts, Mint bookings, or prepaid and credit-based tickets should assess counterparty exposure now. Practical steps: review how much unused value clients are carrying, identify alternative carriers on key routes, and prepare contingency plans in case of a filing. No filing has been announced.
Southwest resets elite tiers for 2027 and plans 11 lounges
From Jan 1, Southwest's A-List becomes Silver and A-List Preferred becomes Gold. A new Platinum tier, earned at 140K points or 100 flights, folds in Companion Pass. The airline also plans to open 11 airport lounges starting in 2027.
For frequent business flyers and corporate programs that rely on Southwest, this changes the value comparison against American, Delta and United. Review clients' current status and qualification paths before the new year, and revisit any status-match recommendations once the lounge locations are clear.
Transatlantic and Gulf capacity: Emirates, British Airways and Aer Lingus
Emirates' president named Denver, Detroit and Philadelphia as US cities that could get first nonstops to Dubai. The comments came at Routes World and no launches are announced, but they signal possible premium capacity and negotiating leverage in those markets. The 777-9 is expected in 2027.
Separately, British Airways is adding frequencies to CVG, LAS, SFO and STL for summer 2027 rather than launching new US routes. Aer Lingus is ending Las Vegas, Denver and Minneapolis, so clients on those routes will need alternatives.
American returns to JFK–Seattle; Air Serbia adds Belgrade–Miami
American will start two daily JFK–Seattle flights on April 6, 2027 with the A321neo, after nearly eight years away. The aircraft has 20 First seats and no lie-flat cabin. American also moves seasonal Bozeman service to JFK. That gives NYC–Pacific Northwest corporate accounts a new nonstop option, though not a lie-flat one.
Air Serbia will launch Belgrade–Miami on May 20, 2027, twice weekly on the A330. It is the airline's third US route and a new one-stop option to the Balkans and Eastern Europe, though the frequency limits its use for roundtrip business travel.
Riyadh Air operates from Al Qassim as Riyadh airport stays suspended
Riyadh airport is suspended after Houthi attacks. Riyadh Air is flying from Al Qassim, a 4.5-hour bus ride away, with a complimentary coach from a Riyadh hotel. Its network includes London Heathrow.
Advisors with travelers in or heading to Saudi Arabia should plan for long ground transfers and reroute where possible. This is also a duty-of-care issue: check traveler locations and confirm transfer arrangements before departure.
Frontier delay to 2:50 a.m. strands passengers behind a closed TSA checkpoint
A Frontier flight delayed to 2:50 a.m. left 60 or more passengers at Miami unable to clear a closed checkpoint serving the F gates. Frontier gave no prior warning.
It is a single incident, but it is a useful irregular-operations reminder. When advising clients on late-night departures from MIA, check checkpoint hours and have a plan if a delay runs past closing. Know the DOT refund rules too, in case a client is left behind.
Citi AAdvantage Executive adds a $200 annual dining credit
The Citi AAdvantage Executive card now carries a $200 annual inKind dining credit, issued as $100 per half-year. The $695 annual fee is unchanged and the benefit is effective immediately, with $100 usable now through December.
It adds value for clients who hold the card mainly for Admirals Club access, though it only helps if they will use inKind.
