Hyatt's points economy tightens on several fronts while IHG and Marriott offer short-window offsets

Two changes land on World of Hyatt clients at once. Bilt-to-Hyatt conversions will be devalued by 25% from January 1, 2027. That follows the Chase Ultimate Rewards devaluation that took effect October 1. For clients who fund Hyatt awards with card points, the effective cost of an award night is going up, and those holding Bilt balances may want to transfer before the change.

Separately, Hyatt has tightened its double-points promotion for stays at new hotels. Stays must be booked on the 'New Hotel Member Bonus Offer' rate plan, award nights no longer earn the bonus, and the bonus is capped at 25,000 points. Participating hotels include Grand Hyatt Cancun, Park Hyatt Riviera Maya, Andaz Turks & Caicos and Grand Hyatt Grand Cayman. Advisors should confirm the rate plan at booking, or clients will not earn the bonus.

IHG is offering 15% off award nights at select new and refreshed hotels through March 31, 2027. The offer applies to stays of three nights or fewer and cannot be combined with the cobrand fourth-night-free benefit. Participating brands include Garner, voco, Vignette Collection and Hotel Indigo, in the US, Mexico, China and Europe.

The long window makes this more useful for planning than most bonus promos. It gives advisors a points-saving option for IHG loyalists who are open to midscale and soft-brand properties. Eligibility is hotel by hotel, so check each property before quoting a price.

Marriott's Eat Around Town promotion doubles the base earn rate on US restaurant spend to 8 points per dollar through October 31. The normal rate is 4 points, or 6 for elites. The promotion also carries a 6,000-point sign-up bonus.

This is a modest value-add for Bonvoy clients. The review requirement and the short window limit its impact, so treat it as a tip to pass along, not a reason to change a booking.

Unions representing about 36,000 Air France cabin crew and pilots have warned of a strike over pensions from October 17 to 21. The dates coincide with the start of the French fall school holidays. This is not a hotel story, but it affects France-bound and France-connecting itineraries.

Advisors with clients flying in that window should consider contingency options now. EC261 care and rebooking obligations still apply, but compensation may be affected. The strike is only a warning at this stage and could be resolved before the dates.
