Premium air gets richer as fares climb and Europe's winter cruise season opens up

Southwest's new Rapid Rewards tiers and Delta One's refresh arrive as September airfares run 22% above last year, strengthening the case to book early. Regent and Oceania's first full-winter Mediterranean programs add shoulder-season cruise inventory for clients heading to Europe.

Southwest and Delta One reset the premium air offer

Southwest is overhauling Rapid Rewards with Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers from Jan. 1, 2027. Platinum carries an unlimited Companion Pass, and new international partners include Icelandair, China Airlines and Etihad. Lounges are being designed with Chase. Advisors with affluent domestic clients should review status-matching and card strategy before the changeover.

Delta One is also getting its largest-ever product refresh. It starts on LAX transoceanic routes this fall, with new menus, 18-hour entree preselection and Missoni amenity kits from Nov. 3. A global rollout follows in early 2027. For clients pairing ultra-luxury land programs with premium air, the refresh is a fresh talking point on transpacific and transatlantic itineraries.

Fuel pushes airfares up 22% as inbound U.S. travel slips

Travel prices are up 8.7% year to date, according to the September Travel Price Index. Airfares are 22.4% above last year and lodging is up 4.3%. Thanksgiving and Christmas domestic fares are up 15–16%. That gives advisors a data-backed reason to book and ticket now and to favor fixed-cost packages.

Inbound demand is moving the other way. Overseas arrivals to the U.S. fell 4.3% in September and are down 5.7% year to date, after a roughly 12% drop in August. Western Europe drove the decline. International-client demand for U.S. luxury destinations and DMC programs may soften, which could mean more negotiating room and availability in gateway cities.

EU border queues and Gulf airspace warnings call for contingency planning

Since April, EES fingerprint and facial scans have caused queues of several hours at some European airports, and the member-state emergency power expired in September. An EU official says there will be 'flexibility,' but no policy change is confirmed. Advisors sending clients to Europe this winter should warn them about delays and consider fast-track or private airport handling.

On routing, the FAA has warned airlines about flying to or over Saudi Arabia after airport attacks, and many carriers already avoid Iranian and Iraqi airspace. Delta has postponed Atlanta–Riyadh to March 2027. Gulf-connected itineraries should allow for rerouting, and advisors should monitor carrier advisories.

Regent and Oceania open the Mediterranean in winter

Regent Seven Seas, an ultra-luxury all-inclusive line, is starting its first full-winter Mediterranean program. Oceania is deploying Allura on its first complete off-season Med schedule next year, and Holland America is expanding its winter Med as well. The result is new shoulder-season inventory at lower pricing, with Christmas-market and truffle-season itineraries to pitch. It suits luxury cruise clients who want Europe without summer crowds.

Riverside adds a fourth ship; Swan Hellenic pairs expeditions with SETI

Riverside Luxury Cruises will add Mahler in 2028. The fourth ship lifts Main-Danube departures to 12 and adds Lower Danube and Dutch Waterways sailings. An 18% discount applies across all suite categories for bookings before June 30, 2027, which gives advisors a long early-booking window.

Swan Hellenic has detailed six 2027 Explore Space at Sea expeditions. They run on 152–192-guest Polar Code ships, from the South Pacific to Antarctica and the Arctic, and each carries a SETI scientist. It is a niche, science-led product for affluent, curious clients.
