Mexico Goes Dark While Jamaica Goes Overwater

Hard Rock pulls two Mexico all-inclusives fully offline through December for renovations, while Sandals adds overwater villas and private-island venues across three Jamaica resorts. A new St. Thomas–St. Maarten nonstop simplifies multi-island wedding itineraries, and fresh UK survey data hands advisors a fresh angle for anniversary-trip and vow-renewal upsells.

Hard Rock's Cancun and Vallarta Resorts Go Fully Dark Through December

Hard Rock's Cancun and Riviera Nayarit-area Vallarta all-inclusives have paused operations entirely for renovations through December 2026, rather than phasing floor-by-floor as is typical for AI resort refreshes. That pulls hundreds of beachfront rooms and both properties' event lawns and reception venues out of the Mexico market for the rest of the year. Advisors holding wedding room blocks, groups or honeymoon bookings at either resort should begin rebooking clients now — into sister Hard Rock all-inclusives elsewhere in Mexico or the Dominican Republic, or into competing Riviera Maya and Nayarit AI resorts with comparable wedding packages. New wedding inquiries at these two properties should be held until confirmed 2027 reopening dates are published. A full-property closure is more disruptive to work around than a staged renovation, since there's no partial-inventory fallback to protect existing contracts through the closure window.

Sandals Brings Overwater Villas — and Private-Island Venues — to Jamaica

Sandals is adding overwater villas, still a rare product in the Caribbean, across three Jamaica resorts, paired with new private-island venues for weddings and events, targeted for late 2026 into 2027. That gives advisors a new premium room category to pitch alongside private-island buyouts for vow renewals and receptions, both commanding stronger commissions than standard swim-up suites. The rollout also signals renovation windows at the three properties this year, which should be disclosed to clients booking ahead of the new inventory opening. Overwater accommodations have long been a Maldives and Bora Bora signature; Sandals bringing the format to Jamaica gives advisors a same-flight-time alternative for couples chasing the overwater photo op without the long-haul Indian Ocean or South Pacific routing. Worth raising with couples currently weighing Jamaica against the Maldives for their wedding or honeymoon.

New St. Thomas–St. Maarten Nonstop Eases Multi-Island Wedding Routing

Contour Airlines will launch nonstop service between St. Thomas and St. Maarten starting October 5, cutting out the San Juan or Miami connections that multi-island Caribbean wedding-and-honeymoon itineraries currently require. For advisors building trips split across islands — ceremony on one, honeymoon extension on another — this opens a cleaner routing option for clients traveling this fall and winter. Both islands are established wedding and honeymoon markets on their own, and a direct link between them makes it easier to sell a combined itinerary rather than treating each as a standalone destination. Contour flies smaller aircraft than the majors, so seat inventory on this route will be tighter than a mainline carrier's, which matters for advisors booking wedding parties or groups traveling together rather than couples alone. Worth building into itineraries now, ahead of the October start.

One in Five Couples Delay the Honeymoon — Which Means an Anniversary Upsell

New Bridebook survey data cited by Eri Maldives finds one in five UK couples now delay their honeymoon past the wedding date, mainly for budget reasons, and travel instead around their first anniversary. Eri Maldives is using the finding to promote overwater-bungalow packages framed around anniversary trips and vow renewals rather than the wedding date itself — a repositioning any advisor selling overwater-bungalow inventory can borrow. It reframes the honeymoon sale: couples who defer travel for cost reasons are still a live honeymoon-package prospect twelve months later, just under a different label. Advisors with client lists from the past year who married without booking a honeymoon have a ready audience for 2026 anniversary trips and vow-renewal ceremonies in the Maldives or other overwater-bungalow destinations, and a natural reason to reach out now.
