Caribbean Skies Open Up While Two Data Points Hand Advisors a Client Pitch

Southwest's confirmed St. Maarten service and Contour's new USVI–SXM nonstop reshape the group-air math for destination weddings, while a 37% AI-planning stat and a Maldives anniversary-booking trend give advisors concrete ammunition for winning complex itinerary clients.

Southwest to SXM and Contour's Island Hops Put St. Maarten Within Budget for More Groups

Southwest's confirmed service to Sint Maarten (SXM) and Contour Airlines' new nonstop from St. Thomas (STT) to SXM — launching October 5, 2026 — together shift the group-air picture for St. Maarten destination weddings. Southwest's broad domestic network introduces low-fare lift from Midwest and Sun Belt gateways that can shave hundreds per person off group air costs, historically the first sticker-shock line in a destination wedding proposal. Contour's STT–SXM segment operates as a through-plane service continuing from San Juan, giving advisors a clean connector for multi-island Caribbean honeymoon itineraries that link USVI time with the French/Dutch side of Saint Martin on a single carrier. A separate Contour announcement adds Dominica–Trinidad and Tobago service for advisors assembling Lesser Antilles circuits. All routes launch October 2026.

Hawaiian Airlines' 737-800 Transition May Ease the Neighbor Island Bottleneck for Honeymooners

Hawaiian Airlines will begin replacing Boeing 717s on Neighbor Island routes with 737-800s starting in 2028. The 717 maxes at 128 seats and has been the chronic capacity constraint on Maui, Kauai, and Big Island legs — a consistent pain point during spring and summer peak season when honeymoon demand competes head-on with leisure travel for scarce intra-island seats. The 737-800 adds roughly 30–40 seats per departure while retaining the Hawaiian-branded cabin product clients expect. For advisors booking 2028-and-beyond Hawaii honeymoon itineraries, the fleet transition suggests premium-cabin inter-island availability may gradually loosen. Worth flagging in client conversations about routing flexibility: the bottleneck that makes peak-season Maui legs difficult to confirm in advance could ease as the new aircraft enter service.

37% AI Stat and a One-in-Five Honeymoon Delay: Two Numbers Advisors Should Be Citing

Two data points worth working into client conversations this week. Allianz Partners research finds 37% of American summer travelers are now using AI to plan trips — which sharpens, rather than threatens, the advisor's value proposition. Destination weddings involve group room blocks, minimum-night requirements, comp-room thresholds, legal vs. symbolic ceremony rules by country, and multi-vendor commission structures that AI cannot navigate; that layered complexity is the clearest competitive moat in the category. Separately, Bridebook data cited by Eri Maldives shows roughly one in five couples delays the honeymoon to the first anniversary — and those deferred bookers tend to book longer stays with higher per-person budgets. Overwater bungalow properties in the Maldives are actively courting this anniversary segment. Advisors who build a 6–9-month post-wedding outreach cadence are positioned to capture repeat bookings without any new client acquisition cost.
