Wellness Travel Scales Up: A Yacht's Biggest-Ever Spa, and a Funding Wave Behind It

Amangati's float-out puts the largest spa ever built into a luxury yacht on sale for 2027, while fresh capital into Function Health, Ahead Health, and Ultrahuman signals clients will keep arriving at retreats armed with their own biomarker data. Different stories, same current: money and expectations in wellness travel are both rising fast.

Amangati Floats Out: Reservations Open for the Largest Spa Ever Built Into a Yacht

Aman at Sea's Amangati has completed float-out, a construction milestone that puts the yacht on track for delivery, and reservations are now open for two 2027 seasons: a Mediterranean maiden season beginning May 2027 and a newly added Autumn 2027 Caribbean season. The draw is the 740-square-meter Aman Spa — eight ocean-facing treatment rooms with private terraces and whirlpools, plus hammam, banya, and a dedicated Medi Spa, making it the largest spa footprint ever built into a luxury yacht. Guest capacity tops out at 94, so inventory is tight from the start. For advisors, this is an early-mover window rather than a routine ship-spa refresh: booking now, well ahead of the maiden season, secures placement in a genuinely new category of dedicated onboard wellness real estate, not an incremental add-on to an existing cruise spa program.

Health-Tech Capital Is Arming Clients With Data Before They Ever Check In

Three unrelated consumer-health stories landed together and point the same direction. Function Health closed $450M in growth financing from General Catalyst. Swiss preventive-health startup Ahead Health raised €8.7M and launched in Germany and the Netherlands. And wearable-maker Ultrahuman reworked its Emerald device to swap raw dashboards for AI-driven coaching. None of these are travel products, but they feed the same demand curve longevity programs — SHA Wellness, Clinique La Prairie, Lanserhof — are already riding: guests who arrive with biomarker histories and expect a retreat's medical team to build on that data rather than start from zero. For advisors booking longevity stays, this is a practical cue to ask operators directly how they ingest outside diagnostics and wearable data. It's fast becoming a real differentiator between programs, not a marginal amenity.

Two threads, one direction: capital keeps flowing into wellness, whether that's a stem-to-stern superyacht spa or the health-tech startups arming clients with data before they ever book. Advisors should expect both bigger onboard wellness products and better-informed guests. — The Wellness Desk
