Regent Trims Cabins, Explora Multiplies: Two Fleets Reset the Luxury Math

Regent Seven Seas will pull nearly 30 suites per ship from its Explorer-Class trio to grow entry accommodations, even as Explora Journeys takes delivery of its third vessel and confirms three more through 2028. One line is trading density for space; the other is simply adding hulls — both moves reshape what advisors will have to sell in the next two years.

Regent to shrink Explorer-Class capacity for bigger entry suites

Regent Seven Seas will cut Seven Seas Explorer, Splendor and Grandeur from 373 to 344 staterooms during drydocks in November 2027, April 2028 and October 2028, converting the reclaimed space into larger accommodations. Entry-level Veranda Suites grow from 305 to 415-465 square feet, and each ship adds a new Horizon Penthouse plus signature Explorer/Splendor/Grandeur Suite categories with butler service and in-suite caviar service. For advisors, this creates a clean before/after sell: pre-refurb sailings become a lower-price, higher-density option worth booking now for space-agnostic clients, while post-refurb departures are a premium upsell to flag for 2028 planning. Expect each ship to come out of its drydock window with reduced inventory temporarily, and start setting client expectations early for guests eyeing the new top-tier suites, which will carry limited availability once relaunched.

  • Seven Seas Explorer: drydock November 2027
  • Seven Seas Splendor: drydock April 2028
  • Seven Seas Grandeur: drydock October 2028
  • Capacity drops from 373 to 344 suites per ship; Veranda Suites grow to 415-465 sq ft

Explora III delivered and named, fleet reaches its halfway point

Explora Journeys took delivery of EXPLORA III, its first LNG-powered ship, from Fincantieri's Genoa yard on July 23 and held the formal naming ceremony in Barcelona on August 1 — the halfway mark in a planned six-ship fleet. The ship runs 63 feet longer than sisters EXPLORA I and II, with the line's highest space ratio yet at 64 square feet per guest, expanded Ocean Residences, two 3,391-square-foot Owner's Residences, and new dining and wellness venues. Explora IV and V are due in 2027, with Explora VI following in 2028. For advisors, this is fresh ultra-luxury inventory to sell immediately, plus a firm fleet-growth timeline that supports positioning future sailings now — particularly the larger suite categories and Owner's Residences, which will be a point of differentiation as the brand scales toward its full fleet.
