Where The Brief Reads

Every source, named. Two systems, one standard.

The Daily Travel Brief reads from two source systems: fourteen editorial desks that power the morning newsletter, and a separate set of official feeds that power destination alerts. This page is the full inventory — what each desk reads, which official feeds can raise an alert, and the bar a source has to clear before we rely on it.

By the numbers

The source list, at a glance.

Editorial feeds and alert feeds are kept deliberately separate — one is high-volume coverage, the other low-volume and high-stakes. The counts below are live unless noted; a feed on trial is ingested and measured, but surfaces nothing until it proves itself.

14
Editorial desks
Each with its own curated source set.
143
Live editorial feeds
73 core trade wires · 70 supplementary.
15
On trial
Ingested and scored, surfacing nothing yet.
5
Official alert sources
Plus more in evaluation.
Official advisories: 9 of the live editorial feeds are official government travel-advisory feeds, read straight into the desks they touch — they publish one item only when an advisory actually changes, which is exactly the cadence we want.
Editorial desks

Fourteen desks, each with a named source set.

Every desk has its own editorial beat and its own feeds. Expand any card to see which sources are live for that desk — we name every source we read. Feeds still on trial are counted, not named, until they earn a place.

Alert sources

Official feeds only — each named in every alert.

Destination alerts run on a separate, stricter source list. These are the official feeds that can raise an alert today; every alert names the one it came from. The deeper story lives at How Destination Alerts Work.

In evaluation: additional official feeds — national severe-weather warning networks, dedicated tsunami warning centers, satellite-based wildfire detection, regional seismic networks that report faster close to home, additional national travel-advisory services — currently run in shadow: ingested and scored, surfacing nothing, while we measure their accuracy. A source earns its place here only after that trial.
What counts as a source

A feed earns its place — and can lose it.

Every source is public and free to read.

We read what you can read. Every feed on this page points at a public, free-to-read source — trade press, operator newsrooms, official advisories — so any claim in the brief traces back to something you can open yourself.

Every feed is tested before it ships.

A feed only joins a desk after it actually fetches and parses. Sources that block automated readers, return errors, or don’t publish a real feed don’t make the list, however well-known the name.

New feeds prove themselves first.

A candidate feed runs on trial: ingested and scored against production traffic, but surfacing nothing to a reader. Only a feed that earns its keep gets promoted — which is why the on-trial count is named but its feeds are not.

Dead feeds get swapped, not stockpiled.

When a source goes quiet or stops publishing, it gets replaced rather than left to rot in the list. The source set is kept small and alive on purpose, not padded for an impressive count.
